Spire Accessibility Statement

This SPIRE Accessibility Statement sets out:

  • How SPIRE pages are laid out
  • How to access PDF documents from within SPIRE
  • How to change the appearance of SPIRE to assist anyone with visual impairment

If you have problems using SPIRE to submit an application due to accessibility problems, please contact the Export Control Organisation who will be happy to assist you. Contact details are given below.

Changing the Appearance of SPIRE

All pages on SPIRE are free of frames and use a cascading style sheet for the visual layout. This style sheet can be completely removed or can be replaced with the user's own defined style sheet. To do this in Internet Explorer go to the "Tools " menu, select "Internet Options " and then click on the "Accessibility" button. Check the three formatting check boxes and/or set the location of your own style sheet, then select "OK".

The text size can be increased or decreased by selecting the "View" menu and then "Text Size" and finally select the size category required.

Page Layout

The defined style sheet has a very simple layout.

  • The top of the left-hand menu bar will always contain navigation menus within the application
  • The bottom of the left-hand menu bar will contain general menu links, such as 'Help', 'Contact Us', 'Security Policy', etc.
  • The top header and footer contain menu options to save and leave the application
  • The header also displays details of the current application if applicable
  • The middle section will always contain the main content of the page
  • The foreground and background colours create a clear contrast
